Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and some other organisms to convert sunlight into chemical energy. It occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells, where chlorophyll pigments capture sunlight and convert it into energy to synthesize glucose from carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is released as a byproduct.
